Dirty Secret Trail Run

A truly great trail is inspiring, has hidden secrets and plenty of challenges. The Fleet Feet Dirty Secret Trail Run presented by Altra has all of these features packed into two scenic course options: a Short Course; 5.8 miles and a Long Course; 10.3 miles.

Held on the trails in Cool, California, Dirty Secret is perfect for first timers and trail vets. Hard-core runners looking for places to test their endurance will find plenty of the trails challenging like "Baby Head Alley", a gnarly down hill with lots of twists and turns and you guessed it rocks the size of baby heads. There's no separate jogging lane but there is plenty of single track. Those new to the trails will have to own up to their true ability and seed themselves accordingly in the proper wave start. Be prepared for the typical trail obstacles of rocks and roots, some low tree branches, slopes that are alternately grueling and a demanding climb out of Knickerbocker Creek which is the backbone of both the long and short course.

Gold Country Cycling Challenge

6:30 AM06:30

Gold Country Cycling Challenge

Join the Rotary Club for the ninth annual gold country Challenge.  A ride through the historic gold mining country of western Nevada County.

THE RIDES

THE CENTURY

Starts at 6:30AM. Not for the faint of heart, the Century includes roads ridden by the Amgen Pros. It’s a challenging, 100 mile adventure with 9,000’ of climbing. Starting at the Nevada County fairgrounds, you’ll skirt Grass Valley and ride through sections of Nevada City before heading north to the South Yuba River watershed. You’ll rest in rustic North San Juan before heading further north to catch some stunning vistas of the Yuba River. You’ll loop back to the south and enjoy a quick break at Bridgeport State Park which features a historic covered bridge spanning the Yuba River and stunning displays of wildflowers. You’ll then continue south to lunch at Williams Ranch School. After lunch you’ll ride past vineyards, horse and cattle ranches to the northern border of Placer County before looping back to the fairgrounds. A challenging and spectacular 100 miles.

THE “METRIC” CHALLENGE

Starts at 7:30AM. This 74 mile “metric” ride might be shorter than the century, but will still be a challenge with 6,500’ of climbing. You’ll follow the same route north as the Century ride, including past Amgen routes. After your Bridgeport break and lunch, you’ll head south past vineyards and horse ranches taking a shorter, more direct route back to the fairgrounds. This is the perfect ride for those of you wanting a little less than a century, but more than a routine metric.

THE MILDER “METRIC”

Starts at 7:30AM. Want a stunning ride with a little less mileage and a few less hills; try the “milder metric.” It is 54 beautiful miles with about 4,500’ of climbing. You’ll ride the same route as the longer metric, but turn south at North San Juan, eliminating the Northern loop. You’ll follow the same route to Bridgeport, lunch and home as the Metric Challenge.

HALF METRIC

Starts at 8:0AM. This 35 mile ride will climb approximately 2,800’ and includes some of the most beautiful landscape in Nevada County. From the fairgrounds, you’ll follow the Century route until you’re north of Nevada City. You’ll descend down Newtown Rd. towards the Yuba River watershed and rejoin the Metric route at the lunch stop. After lunch you’ll stay on the Metric route as it heads south and then loops back to the fairgrounds. They’ll be ample SAG support at the bottom of the last hill heading home in case you (or your legs) have “run out of gas.”

SUPPORT

All rides will be fully supported with water, rest stops, lunch and SAG vehicles. Afterwards, join us at the fairgrounds (named the most beautiful in California) for a delicious, unique hot meal ….and of course, beer and wine (or chocolate milk if you prefer).

The Century Ride begins at 6:30 am, the Metric rides at 7:30 am the half-Metric at 8:30.

Western States

The Western States ® 100-Mile Endurance Run is the world’s oldest 100 mile trail race. The Run starts in Olympic Valley, California, near the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics, and ends 100.2 miles later in Auburn, California. In the decades since its inception in 1974, Western States has come to represent one of the ultimate endurance tests in the world.

Traversing the traditional lands of the Nisenan, Washoe, and other neighboring Indigenous Peoples, the Western States Trail climbs more than 18,000 feet and descends nearly 23,000 feet before runners reach the finish at Placer High School in Auburn. In the miles between Olympic Valley and Auburn, runners experience the majestic high country of Emigrant Pass and the Granite Chief Wilderness, the crucible of the canyons of the California gold country, a memorable crossing of the ice cold waters of the Middle Fork of the American River, and finally the historic reddish brown trails that led many travelers, including gold prospectors, to Auburn.

For five decades, Western States has been home to some of the sport’s most stirring and legendary competitions. With more than 1,500 dedicated volunteers helping to create a once-in-a-lifetime experience, the Run has stirred the spirit of runners from all walks of life, from all over the globe.

Offering the sport’s oldest and most prized possession – a sub-24-hour silver belt buckle and a sub-30-hour bronze belt buckle – Western States remains one of the undisputed crown jewels of human endurance.

Bad Luck Runner's Club - Death Mile

  • Railhead Park, meeting under the bridge. (map)

The Bad Luck Runner’s Club’s DEATH MILE has arrived in Auburn and only the strongest will survive

The Death Mile is our version of a beer mile meets Fear Factor (I mean no worms or anything), where you will eat or drink a mystery item at the start of every lap. You’ll run 4 laps and eat or drink 4 mystery items… one mile in total.

Its both a challenge and a hilariously funny story to tell your friends.

Nitty Gritty Details:

1) All items are edible, normal food/drink items, and commonly found at the store.

2) You won’t know what you’re getting till its given to you. You must consume all of it to run the next lap or else be DQ’d.

3) If you have food allergies, let us know before you run. We will have alternatives for common allergies.

4) “Run-Off”, male and female winners of the first 4 laps must run a 5th lap to determine the true winner (1/4 mile).

5) $5 mandatory “donation” if you join us. Bring it to the run.
